Jared Leone first to qualify in Clearwater city council race

Despite entering the Clearwater City Council Seat 4 race nearly a month after his opponent, Clearwater’s Community-First Candidate Jared Leone has become the first candidate to qualify for the ballot—a milestone powered by the residents, neighbors and community supporters who signed petitions to put his campaign before voters. This milestone underscores the grassroots strength behind Leone’s campaign and the growing demand for community-first leadership in City Hall.

“This demonstrates the community’s enthusiasm, and I am humbled by the outpouring of support,” Leone said. “I could not have done so much in a short time without the help of my friends, family, neighbors and other residents who are ready for change.”

Leone is a longtime Clearwater resident and active community leader. He serves as president of the Clearwater Neighborhoods Coalition, president of the Spring Branch Neighborhood Association and vice president of Keep Pinellas Beautiful. He served as chairman of the city’s Environmental Advisory Board for nearly a decade. He’s also raised five guide dog puppies in training for Southeastern Guide Dogs (now Dogs, Inc.).

Professionally, Leone has spent nearly 20 years covering the issues, institutions and decisions that shape Clearwater, Tampa Bay and communities across Florida. His work has reached local residents and national audiences through publications and news services including the Tampa Bay Times, The Associated Press, Reuters and The Washington Post.

The Seat 4 election is Aug. 18; voters must register by July 20.
